Manila – The Philippines’ new world boxing champion, Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong of North Cotabato, gets a first taste of his celebrity status now as he has been invited to guest in the popular morning program “Umagang Kay Ganda” of ABS-CBN at 6 a.m. tomorrow, June 18.
The guesting was arranged by veteran sports journalist Dyan Castillejo who met the 27-year-old IBO Jr. Bantamweight champion upon his arrival at the NAIA 1 yesterday following a long trip from Johannesburg to Manila via Dubai.
Dapudong will be accompanied by his manager, former North Cotabato Governor Manny Pinol, and physical therapist Jeff de Guzman who worked in the Filipino champion’s corner in Johannesburg, South Africa last Saturday.
The farmer’s son from Barangay Pag-asa, M’lang, North Cotabato knocked out South African champion Gideon Buthelezi in the first round, avenging a split decision loss he suffered during their first meeting on Nov. 10, 2012.
After the ABS-CBN guesting, the new champion and his manager will fly down to Davao and call on M’lang Mayor Joselito Pinol on Wednesday.
