Advocacy lives on! LANAO TOWNS RECEIVE MinDA MORINGA SEEDS

Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte – During breakfast in his family’s ancestral home today, I gave Mayor Rommel Arnado four packets of vacuum packed Moringa seeds for propagation in his town.
The seeds actually came from my Fil-Am friend, Rocky French, who has incorporated Moringa and “Lupo” in his feed formulation for his Tilapia production in Coachella Valley, Southern California.
Moringa or “malunggay” has traditionally been used as leafy vegetables in the Philippines, especially among Visayans.
There is even an anecdote which says that during typhoons, the Visayans would really make sure that the Moringa trees are not toppled because of its nutritional importance.
“Bahala matumba ang balay, basta dili lang ang kamunggay,” the anecdote says.
I have been promoting the planting of Malunggay even just in the backyard of rural homes for the consumption of farm families.
For those raising goats and even chicken, hammered Moringa leaves mixed with feeds could improve growth and milk production.
Today, on the second day of the Mindanao Development Authority’s (MinDA) Water Supply and Livelihood Orientation Program here in Iligan City, I will be giving out packets of Moringa seeds to the municipal agriculturists of Lanao sel Sur.
They will be asked to develop a seed production garden in their towns so that the planting of Moringa could be cascaded down to the villages.
(First three photos were downloaded from my previous post promoting Moringa farming. The other photos taken by Mayette Tudlas, MinDA OC, show Mayor Arnado hosting an organic breakfast for members of the MinDA team of resource speakers in Kauswagan town today.)
