Contrary to the contention of the country’s Chief Economist, Finance Sec. Benjamin Diokno, that Philippine Agriculture is a dying industry, largely unknown Filipino companies are investing heavily to produce equipment and materials to boost Agricultural Production.
Yesterday, I made a quick trip to Metro Manila flying out of Davao City at 3 a.m. and returning home in Kidapawan City at 2:30 a.m. today.
Aside from a very important meeting with a group interested in my Soybeans Project, I wanted to visit a factory in Valenzuela City which produces Agricultural UV Plastic Sheets for Greenhouses and Dryers.
I am scouting for suppliers of 150 microns UV Plastic Sheets to be used in our Solar Drying Facilities in Alamada, Cotabato.
We also need 75 microns UV Plastic Sheets to protect our Garlic and Onion in our Demo Farm in Alamada.
Meeting with the executives of FAS Development Corp. led by John Tan, I learned that the company has invested heavily on several machinery to fabricate materials needed by Filipino farmers.
John showed me a Rice Seeding tray which the company could produce by hundreds of thousands.
The Rice Seeding trays are needed in Mechanical Rice Planting.
What surprised me the most was the information that the company produces Greenhouse Sheds which the farmers could easily assemble.
Before I left, John assured me that the company which procured modern machines from Europe could fabricate and manufacture any plastic-based material needed by the farmers.
“Just tell us what you need, we could design the mould to mass produce it,” John told me.
The new knowledge was a great relief for it made me realize that since big companies are investing in equipment for food production Agriculture isn’t really dying after all.
