All Set, Ready To Go! Old Backhoe To Build Roads, Water Catchments in Talakag

As promised to the vegetable farmers of Miarayon, Talakag, Bukidnon, I am dispatching early today my small and old backhoe to the mountain village to build access roads and small water catchments.
In my last visit to the vegetable production area of Bukidnon, young farmer leader Ryan Danio, a Talaandig native, said that one of the most critical problems of farmers is the absence of small roads from the production area to the main highway.
Vegetables are placed in sacks and loaded on horseback causing massive spoilage.
He said the area also needs water catchments so they could conserve water for the summer months.
They asked for farm-to-market roads from government but I told them that it will take at least two to three years before they could have the roads, if ever.
Since Talakag Mayor Vergito Factura was with me, I asked him to provide fuel to my old Komatsu PC20 farm backhoe which I will lend to the farmers’ group.
Danio’s group will shoulder the backhoe operator’s daily wage and other maintenance expenses.
Yesterday, I borrowed a small truck owned by my brother, Mlang Vice Mayor Lito, to transport the small backhoe to Miarayon early today.
Also loaded in the truck are 600 Dao and 170 Toog tree seedlings to be planted in the sloping areas of Miarayon.
It is my dream that this old and small farm equipment will help improve the lives of the poor farmers in the area.
(First five photos were taken early today in ky farm in Kidapawan after the backhoe was loaded in the truck.)
