‘Balik Mindanao’ FIRST ‘BALIK’ MODEL VILLAGE RISES IN KAUSWAGAN, LDN

Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte – The first model resettlement village of the “Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program” is now starting to rise in Barangay Tacub, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte following the final coordination meeting yesterday arranged by the Mindanao Development Authority between the local government units and agencies involved in the program.
When completed by the end of August this year, the Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte BPBPP Village will serve as a model and provide a template to the initiative of Senator Christopher Lawrence Go to decongest the urban centers by shifting government’s development efforts in the countryside.
The Kauswagan BPBPP Village will accommodate the first 200 families coming home from Metro Manila who will be trained in Organic Broiler Chicken and Organic Vegetable Production in keeping with the advocacy of the town’s mayor, Rommel Arnado, for organic farming.
A supermarket chain will be engaged as the off-taker of the products from the Kauswagan BPBPP Village.
The resettled families will be provided housing financed by the National Housing Authority (NHA) which they will pay back under a long-term loan program.
They will occupy a 6.3-hectare area, which will also serve as their compact farm, which was acquired through a donation by a private power company based in Kauswagan, GNPK.
During the final coordination meeting held at the Mindanao Convention Center (MCC) in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, Governor Imelda Q. Dimaporo expressed full support for the program.
The other town mayors of the province who attended the final consultations also said they would like to open their towns to the BPBPP Program to support the program of President Rody Duterte.
BPBPP Council Secretariat Chairman Marcelino Escalada, Jr., general manager of the National Housing Authority (NHA) and Undersecretary Aimee Neri of the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development joined the conference along with regional directors of several line agencies through ZOOM.
It was agreed that the first group of BPBPP beneficiaries will have to undergo rigid social orientation and health examination protocols before they will move out of Metro Manila and after they have arrived in Lanao del Norte.
It was also agreed yesterday that a Project Management Office to be headed by the Mayor of Kauswagan with MinDA and other agencies as members will be organized to handle the program.
Next week, the Kauswagan LGU will erect the first model BPBPP Duplex in the village using its own finances.
Kauswagan Mayor Arnado said the LGU is willing to provide counterpart funds for the project.
