Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur – The poor town of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur is pinning its hopes on the Mindanao Devellopment Authority (MinDA) – initiated Mindanao Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Pratogram (MINFAD) to improve the lives of its poor fisherfolks.
Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor Yu, Cong. Divine Yu and Pitogo Mayor James Yecyec have all expressed hope that the European Union-funded Mindanao Rise Program will address the need of the fisherfolk of Pitogo.
Pitogo is one of the fishing grounds in Mindanao identified for inclusion in the MINFAD’s Fish Center program which aims to establish post-harvest facilities like ice-making and blast-freezing equipment.
Mayor Yecyec said that the absence of post-harvest facilities result in very low prices of fish during peak fishing season with a kilo of “Galunggong” sold for only P5.
