The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte will soon start a series of consultations with stakeholders of agriculture and fisheries to craft a long-term Agriculture and Fisheries Master Plan for the province.
The Davao del Norte Agri-Fisheries Master Plan will identify the strength and resources of the province and provide direction for the development of its full potentials.
Known as a major producer of Cavendish Bananas for export, Davao del Norte’s economy was affected by the devastation caused by the Fusarium Wilt or Panaman Disease which affected hundreds of hectares of bananas.
Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said that the province needs to develop the other agricultural activities like the planting of high-value fruit trees and vegetables in the highlands, cattle breeding and fattening, goat raising, free-range chicken farming, corn development and modernizing its fisheries sector.
Yesterday, I and officials of MinDA travelled to Tagum City for the ceremonial turn over of a counterpart fund of P300,000 for the crafting of the Agri-Fisheries Master Plan.
While MinDA has limited funds, it was extended financial support to the local government units in Mindanao to pump prime activities which would contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic condition of the areas.
Earlier, MinDA released P400,000 to the Metro Kidapawan Water District for the conduct of a 25-year-old Water Supply Master Plan for Kidapawan City.
Another P200,000 was released to the Bamboo Workers of North Cotabato for the purchase of equipment and machines to process bamboo into high-value products.
An initial 12 Fishing Communities will also receive financial assistance for the establishment of Steam-Powered Fish Dryers and Retort Machine needed to process bottled Spanish Sardines.
MinDA’s strategic and surgical interventions are aimed at addressing problems which had stunted the growth and productivity of communities in Mindanao.
