Camera never lies! Olutanga-Alicia Road Still in Very Bad Shape

Last week, after I posted an article on the Alicia-Olutanga Road Project using photos which were taken six months ago, several comments were made which accused me of being unfair to the construction group which is undertaking the ADB-funded project.

Those who defended the construction group even said that I was exaggerating and said that the condition of the road is no longer the same as it was six months ago.

Well, as I promised last week, I travelled through that road again on my way out of Olutanga town last Sunday and took this footage of the condition of the road section from Olutanga to Mabuhay.

Please take note that this was taken on a sunny day when there was no rain which could have worsened the condition of the road.

Indeed, there were portions of the highway with a budget of almost P1-B for the 29-kilometer stretch which had been concreted but the accomplishments were negligible compared to the still unfinished spans.

What was very strange was the fact that I did not see much road building equipment on the project and that there was an obvious absence of activities in many stretches of the construction project.

It must be understood that I am bringing this out in public, not because we would like to put the construction company in a bad light but because the delay in the completion of the road is an injustice to the people of the island of Olutanga.

Earlier, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) had proposed the organization of the Infrastructure Monitoring and Advisory Group (IMAG) to get the stakeholders involved in the monitoring of the progress of the project.

MinDA will pursue this and hopefully next week, a technical team from our agency will be able to sit down with the local officials and the construction group to iron out problems which cause the delay in the implementation of the project.
