Tobacco, a traditional crop of Ilocano farmers up Nortjh and in several areas in Mindanao, could make a come back, this time no longer as a cancer-causing farm produce but as a source of vaccine against the dreaded COVID-19.
Officials of the British American Tobacco, a huge corporation involved in the tobacco industry, claimed in an interview with Fox News that their scientists are nearing the completion of initial tests on the COVID-19 vaccine sourced from tobacco.
The BAT official said the vaccine could be ready by June and the volume of production could be in the millions.
If this is true, and I pray it is, the Pandemic that has caused so much pain, miseries and economic troubles to people and countries around the world may soon be addressed.
Also, our tobacco farmers in Claveria, Misaims Oriental and many parts of Mindanao could hit it big.
Ito nga ang patunay doon sa kasabihan ng mga matatanda na lahat ng ginawa ng Panginoon ay may kabutihang dulot.
It is just a question of discovering the goodness in everything that God has created.
