Inspired by the successful 1st Mindanao Vegetable Derby held in Bukidnon late last year, the Province of Agusan del Norte is holding a season-long Vegetable Festival and Derby August.
Agusan del Norte Gov. Dale Corvera said the provincial government allocated P903,650 for the activity with a Farmers Field Day scheduled end of August.
Participating seed companies include Condor, East West Seeds, Kaneko, Ramgo and Seedworks.
The Dept. of Agriculture Caraga Regional Office, four Municipal LGUs of Agusan del Norte hosting the derby sites, fertilizer and chemical companies (BASF, Bio-Agronomica, BACPHIL Planters, LEADS Agri) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) are among the cooperating agencies.
The Derby Sites are in the Municipalities of Santiago, Las Nieves (first group), Municipality of Kitcharao and City of Cabadbaran (second group).
The target crops include Squash, eggplant, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, ampalaya, pole beans, sweet corn, watermelon, lowland cabbage and hot pepper.
The Agusan del Norte Vegetable Festival and Derby will focus on technology transfer, introduction of outstanding seeds and market linkage.
Just like in the 1st MinDA Vegetable Festival and Derby, outstanding farmers will also be give trophies and prizes.
Outstanding seed companies will also be awarded with plaques and trophies.
