Murcia, Negros Occidental – The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) will introduce to local government units in the region next month a village-level plastics recycling technology which could also provide livelihood to poor families.
The plastics recycling technology, developed by Ramon Magsaysay Awardee AIDFI headed by Bacolod-based Dutch engineer Auke Indzenga, will be among the activities to be included in the proposed Memorandum of Technical Cooperation to be forged between MinDA and the Province of Negros Occidental.
In a recent visit I made to the AIDFI Fabrication Facility in Murcia where Idzenga and his fellow AIDFI members are fabricating ram pumps, he showed me and my team four simple machinery used in recycling Coca Cola bottles and caps.
My team included multi-awarded Mindanao inventor Engr. Rudy Cane of Butuan City.
The recycled plastics are turned into gaskets for the ram pumps, school chairs and even flower vases.
The whole set up costs less than P500,000 but the impact on environmental protection and livelihood generation would be immense.
Next month, during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Technical Cooperation, I will invite Mindanao LGUs to join the exposure trip to the plastics recycling facility and other areas of interest in Negros Occidental.
Negros Occidental, represented by Gov. Bong Lacson and the Mindanao Development Authority which I head as Chairman will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation.
