Complete Value Chain! FARMERS INK MARKET AGREEMENTS WITH CEBU SUPERMART, MAKATI FIRM

One of Cebu’s fastest-growing supermarket chain, Ultramart, and a start-up trading and export firm based in Makati, JD Powers, signed marketing agreements with farmers’ groups on the final day of the season-long Mindanao Vegetable Derby 2020 on Dec. 12.
Two executives of Ultramart, which now has 18 branches all over Cebu, Pascita David and Ariel Bantayan, engaged the Miarayon Highland Farmers Association for the supply of vegetables regularly.
Ultramart, which aims to launch the program mid-January next year in Cebu City, will guide the farmers on the varieties of vegetables in demand in the market and the volume needed.
It also agreed to carry the Mindanao Ube Jam in its stores starting January in time for the launching of the MinDA Tienda sa Sugbu during the Sinulog festivities.
JD Powers, a start-up company based in Makati, also engaged the farmers group in the production of organically-grown Cabbage for “Kimchi” production and Carrots for Carrot Juice in cans or tetrapaks.
JD Powers owner, Josephine Ong Dasco, signed an agreement with farmer leader Ryan Danio to pursue this program.
She said she will also be engaging farmers for the supply of canned pineapple for export.
The signing of the agreements was the highlight of the season-long activity which aims to improve the quantity and quality of farm production to ensure marketability.
