The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has completed the Geo-Mapping of the vegetable production areas in the four upland towns of Bukidnon, the first step in the crafting of a Master Plan for Sustainable Vegetable and High Value Crops Production emphasizing environmental protection.
The drone-generated Geo-Map, undertaken by the IT team from MinDA and supported by the provincial government, the Armed Forces and Philippine National Police and other agencies, will identify the critical watershed and headwaters in the area.
Covered in the first phase of the Geo-Map are 12 upland barangays in the towns of Impasugong, Talakag, Sumilao and Lantapan, otherwise known as the IMTASULA Complex.
It will also dileanate the production areas and identify streams, creeks and rivers which will be the source of irrigation water using both solar-powered irrigation and ram pumps.
Critical road networks which would contribute to the easy transport of perishable goods to the nearest major highway or consolidation facilities will also be included in the map.
On Thursday, July 16, the initial results of the Geo-Mapping will be presented to Bukidnon officials led by Governor Jose Zubiri and the officials of the four towns along with farmer leaders.
Included in the presentation are the models for Solar -Powered Irrigation Systems and the Ramp Pump Irrigation System.
Negros Occidental-based Auke Idzenga, a Ramon Magsaysay awardee for innovative water supply systems will present the Ramp Pump System.
The IMTASULA Complex has a total of about 50,000 hectares of rich soil at an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level and is projected to be developed into a major vegetable and high value crops production area.
MinDA will source funding for the project with the support of other national agencies and Official Development Assistance provided by foreign donor agencies..
The Master Plan is expected to be completed and presented to the funding agencies by the end of July 2020.
