Our transportation agency must seriously consider conducting a random driving and drug testing for drivers of passenger vans plying Mindanao’s highways.
I had a close brush with a road mishap today as I drove an old Silverado truck on the way to my farm.
I was getting on the highway from a sidestreet in Balindog, Kidapawan and was already in the middle marker waiting for the right lane to clear before turning left when a passenger van driver recklessly drove to within a few feet of my truck.
The driver stopped perilously near my truck and honked before driving off.
I gave chase and caught up with the van after which I angrily confronted the driver for endangering our lives as well as that of his passengers.
Batukan ko sana, mabuti lang naalala ko na lipas na pala ang panahon na sanggano ako at opisyal na ako ng gobyerno ngayon.
In my younger days, he would have felt the impact of my left and right combination.
After warning him to be more careful in driving, I allowed him to go.
Just the same, our transportation agency must be asked to consider conducting random driving tests for passenger van drivers many of whom are reckless.
There are even reports that some of them take drugs to stay awake during the long drive.
So many people have lost their lives because of these reckless drivers.
This must end now.
