Long hidden in the thick forests of Alamada is a unique waterfalls where the water gushes out from the side of a cliff into a river 60 meters below.
There is no river from where the water would come from.
Water sprinkles from the openings in the cliff creating an image of a moving curtain of water which contrasts with the green wild vines that hang on the side of the cliff.
It is so unique that it is believed to be the only one of its kind in the whole world.
The Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources is moving to have Asik-Asik Falls declared as a Geological Monument.
The Asik-Asik Falls was accidentally discovered in 2011 following a wild fire which cleared the area of vegetation.
Today, as people flock to the area and farmers till the rich land surrounding the falls, the local government unit of Alamada is racing against time to protect and conserve this Wonder of Nature.
Local officials have drawn up a plan which would start a sustainable agro-forestry program to lure farmers away from planting cash crops like corn, upland rice and banana which require the clearing of trees.
The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), a Philippine government agency overseeing the development of the Southern Philippines, is helping the Local Government Unit of Alamada finalise a Master Plan for the Protection, Preservation and Conservation of the Fantastic Asik-Asik.
