On this day four years ago, a week before the 2016 Presidential elections, I already foresaw a victory by then Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte.
I saw the signs in the number of readers reached by my posts about Mayor Duterte on this page which at one time hit 9 million.
The controversial “Pope” remark in November 2015 actually saw the number of followers plummeting to about 4 million but by May of 2016 it was back to 7.1-million.
It was also this Facebook page which first introduced the brand DU30 which was coined by an Overseas Filipino Worker and sent to me as an idea.
The OFWs actually were the first rabid and ardent followers of Mayor Duterte with many of them forming chapters in the different parts of the world.
I was also part of the group, along with movie star Robin Padilla, which came up with Duterte Fist symbol to signify courage and resolve to effect change.
Today, “DU30” is emblazoned in thousands of shirts and the “Duterte Fist” is displayed even by those who vigorously campaigned against him in 2016.
May kilala nga ako na kandidato pagka Congressman na personal kong kinausap na tumulong kay Rody Duterte pero tumanggi dahil wala daw ipapanalo ang taga Davao.
A year after President Duterte assumed office, na appoint na Undersecretary.
Indeed, “Victory has many fathers while Defeat is an orphan!”
(Facebook is a reliable gauge of a person’s popularity or the acceptability of an idea. The last two photos show participants in a golf tournament which I arranged where the DU30 mark was emblazoned on our shirts and stitched on our golf caps, long before it became very popular.)
