Polomolok, South Cotabato – Straight from a 10-hour Mindanao Speaks Up Forum in Davao City yesterday, I accompanied Lanao del Sur Gov. Bombit Adiong and his brother Hookey Adiong in a livestock raising orientation trip in the Adelaide River Farm in Barangay Glamang, this town.
The visit to the 500-head Cattle Fattening farm operated by former OFW Arnel Corpuz and his partner, Paul Alcoreza, is part of the technical assistance provided by the Mimdanao Development Authority (MinDA) to Lanao del Sur, one of the focus areas for development interventions.
Corpuz, MinDA consultant for the Livestock Development Program, briefed Gov. Adiong and his team on the potentials of cattle breeding anf fattening in Lanao del Sur.
Gov. Adiong was deeply impressed by the livestock program and said it is an ideal agriculture activity in his province, the second biggest in the Philippines in land area.
He said the climate and availability of forage materials make his province a potential major producer of livestock.
MinDA will assist the provincial in packaging the project and accessing loan funds from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
“We will start small and then encourage other towns to replicate the project.
Gov. Adiong said that following lessons learned from the pandemic, Lanao del Sur will aim to be food self-sufficient.
