The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) yesterday donated a sackful of the Purple Ube to Baguio City’s Good Shepherd Sisters through Mayor Benjie Magalong.
The Purple Ube came all the way from Lantapan, Bukidnon and was given to the religious group famous for making Ube and Strawberry Jams.
Through the representative of the Sisters who received the donation, MinDA relayed the information that Mindanao farmers could supply the Ube requirements of the group.
Mindanao Ube farmers now could produce as much as 20 tons a month.
MinDA and the Davao del Norte provincial government will also introduce commercial Ube farming to tribal families under the “Adopt-an-IP Family” Program.
