Going On-Line! Another Lanao Sur Town Linked To Bank Network

The poor town Taraka became the third Lanao del Sur town to join On-Line Banking with the installation of two Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) on Thursday.
Taraka Mayor Nashiba Sumagayan, DBP Senior Vice President for Northern Mindanao Mr. Neogene Chavez, representing President and CEO Emmanuel Herbosa, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, led the inauguration of the DBP ATMs.
Mayor Sumagayan said that the establishment of the ATMs will serve thousands of bank clients in the Basak Region in Lanao del Sur who previously had to travel to Iligan City.
“This initiative strengthens the objective of the Municipality of Taraka to become the center of agriculture and rural development in the Province of Lanao del Sur,” she further stated.
While ATMs are common banking facilities in most urban areas, these are being introduced for the first time in many previously troubled towns of Mindanao.
Earlier, MinDA also facilitated the installation of ATMs in Balabagan and Malabang towns, including the Matling Industrial Commercial Corp., a Cassava Processing Facility, also in Lanao del Sur.
DBP Senior Vice President for Northern Mindanao, Mr. Neogene Chavez, stressed that the ATM project helps DBP attain its mandate on financial inclusivity for every Filipino in Mindanao and the whole country.
“Development should be spread in the rural areas, and our role doesn’t stop with the establishment of ATM in Taraka. We will always support Taraka towards economic sustainability together with MinDA,” Chavez said.
MinDA has chosen the Municipality of Taraka as a model LGU for rural development through self-reliance.
