Just minutes after I posted the launching next year of the Livelihood Opportunities in Villages for Economic Upliftment (LOVE-U) project of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), a former Overseas Filipino Worker who managed Wagyu Feed Lots in Australia for many years has stepped forward to join the advocacy to attain peace and prosperity through simple livelihood projects.
Arnel Corpuz, who co-owns the Adelaide River Farm in Polomolok, South Cotabato and is recognised as one of the leading authorities in cattle fattening, has volunteered to help me my joining the lecture series for farmers who would like to learn the secrets of successful animal raising project.
I met and befriended Arnel during the Presidential Campaign in 2016 when he and other OFWs volunteered to support the candidacy of then Mayor Rody Duterte.
When I was appointed Secretary of Agriculture, I asked him to join me in government service but he turned down my offer opting to work in the private sector.
Today, I succeeded in convincing him to join me in my advocacy to achieve peace and prosperity in Mindanao through simple livelihood projects like backyard chicken raising, goat raising and vegetable and fruit farming.
I will ask Arnel and the other experts who will be recruited to join me in the Sulu sortie early next year to launch the LOVE-U Program.
Sulu farmers could be taught how plant Sorghum for silage and grains production which could in turn support the backyard chicken raising, goat raising and cattle fattening projects.
My dream is to turn Sulu into a livestock and poultry production area because it is an ideal place for such given the fact that it is isolated thus naturally. bio-secure.
I am happy that with the inspiration provided by President Duterte, I am getting the support need to realise this dream.
