Bongao, Tawitawi – An Expo which will feature the treasures and beauty of Tawitawi, one of the five provinces which comprise the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), is scheduled to be staged in Metro Manila in October.
Tawitawi Governor Yshmael “Mang” Sali, former mayor of Languyan town, excitedly embraced the proposal of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) for the staging of the first of a series of Expos titled “Treasures and Beauty of the Bangsamoro.”
The Expo which will feature the five provinces of the BARMM is aimed at projecting a new image of the region following the signing of a peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MinDA) ending years of bloody conflict.
MinDA Chairman, Sec. Manny Piñol, earlier proposed to BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim the staging of the Expo as the Region and the rest of Mindanao attempt to promote the Southern Philippines as a peaceful investment area.
Expected to be featured during the “Discover the Bangsamoro: Treasures and Beauty of Tawitawi” are deep sea pearls, high value fish and harvests from the sea, indigenous handicrafts and other products.
The Expo also aims to link the fishermen and farmers of Tawitawi to the market in the big cities, including Cebu and Metro Manila.
The exact dates and venue will be announced later.
