I, Farm Boy! EXCESSIVE GRAINS FEEDS COULD KILL GOAT BUCKS

There is a very serious disease that could kill your male goats or bucks if you are not careful with your feeding program, especially for confined goats.
Ang manifestation ng sakit na ito ay hindi maka-ihi which results in a bloated stomach and later death.
Ang tawag sa sakit na ito ay Urinary Calculi and here is what experts say in a study published by the Michigan State University:
“Urinary Calculi is almost always the result of improper feeding by the producer. Proper calcium to phosphorus ratio in feed, hay and minerals is critical; this ratio should be 2 1/2 to 1.
“Although the disease is called Urinary Calculi, the real culprit is phosphorus — specifically too much phosphorus in relation to the amount of calcium in the diet.
“Feeding too much concentrated feed and/or feeding concentrates with an improper calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is a major cause of Urinary Calculi. Overfeeding or improper feeding of concentrates causes solid particles to develop in the urine; these solid particles block the flow of urine out of the goat’s body, causing great pain, discomfort and oftentimes death.
“Besides concentrates, there are other factors affecting the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio in the goat’s diet. If the minerals being fed have the proper calcium-to-phosphorus ratio and the goats are not being fed a diet heavy in concentrates, then the producer should have both water and hay tested for mineral content.”
I know how deadly this disease is because I lost so many good bucks because of this.
Sa kagustuhan ko na makita na bilog na bilog ang katawan ng mga toro ko na kambing, dinamihan ko ang concentrated feeds.
The result was a disaster and huge financial losses.
So, para maiwasan ito, avoid feeding your bucks with concentrated feeds.
It is better to just let him graze in the free range or if he is confined, just give him silage with a little amount of “darak” added with a little salt to make it palatable.
