Manado, Indonesia – As I anxiously prepare to go back home to Mindanao tomorrow after an otherwise successful trade mission to Manado this week, I was informed by my brothers, Jun and Lito, that the most urgent need of our people in North Cotabato now are tents to serve as their temporary shelter.
This is also the problem of other families in the affected towns of Davao del Sur, South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.
The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is now collating the list , but it is estimated that thousands of houses, mostly of poor families, were totally destroyed by the series of earthquakes since Oct. 16, the latest of which was this morning.
Even those whose houses were only partially damaged have been traumatised by the series of strong tremors that they have opted to sleep outside of their homes.
As Chairman of MinDA and a resident of Cotabato, I am appealing to all kind-hearted individuals, especially those who have supported and followed me in this Facebook page all these years, I am appealing for your help.
Here are the things that our people immediately need:
1. Tents to serve as temporary shelters, especially now that it is starting to rain;
2. Blankets and mosquito nets for children;
3. Mats and bottled water if available.
Please send all of your donations to the Office of the Chairman, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), Old Airport Building, Sasa, Davao City.
If the donors are based in Manila, I could arrange for the pickup of the items to be brought to Mindanao.
You could message me directly through this page.
Thank you very much and may God bless us all.
