In the short time that I spent in the riverside village of Layog, Pagalungan, Maguindanao on Thursday, I could not help but admire the resilience of people whose access to the rest of the town had been through the use of flimsy river boats.
School children go to the nearest high school, the sick are brought to the hospital while whatever little crops the farmers produce are brought to the market using the fragile wooden boats.
This has been going on for ages but people of the village learned to live with this reality.
On Thursday, upon seeing the sad situation of the people in the village, I made a promise to the local officials that I will come back to Layug to help the people fulfill their dream of a bridge and a short road from the town proper to the village.
Wherever fate would bring me after the May 2022 elections, I will make sure that I will fulfill this promise.
The dreamed bridge and road will soon come true.
