Blessed with clean coastal areas and favorable climatic conditions, Mindanao is an ideal place to invest in fish cage farming.
In this second episode of the Beauty and Bounty of Mindanao, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) features fish cage farming in Malalag Bay, Davao del Sur, Tagabuli, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur and General Santos City.
These areas produce some of the best tasting Bangus or Milkfish which are raised in fish cages along with Danggit and Kitong.
There are other areas in Mindanao where fish cage farming has become a major fisheries industry including in the coastal areas of Misamis Oriental, Zamboanga Peninsula and Sultan Kudarat.
Other prospective areas are the Polloc Bay in Parang, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, Tawitawi, Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental, areas which are not often affected by typhoons.
Those interested to invest in Fish Cage Farming could be assisted by the MinDA for their feasibility studies and financial plans for bank financing.
