Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte – The Province of Lanao del Norte yesterday became the second Mindanao Province to accept the challenge to establish a model Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Rural Resettlement Project with the town of Kauswagan as the Pilot Area.
Lanao del Norte Governor Imelda Q. Dimaporo expressed her support for the Rural Resettlement initiative pushed by Senator Christopher Lawrence Go through Kauswagan Mayor Rommel Arnado.
Lanao del Norte becomes the second Mindanao Province after Zamboanga del Norte to express interest in joining the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program.
Mayor Arnado, an advocate of organic farming, yesterday received the team from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) which presented the concept of the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program.
He said the town is ready to accept the first 200 families who would like to come home to Kauswagan or Lanao del Norte in a 5-hectare housing-with-livelihood activity in Barangay Kudaran.
During the discussion yesterday, Mayor Arnado eagerly accepted the proposal of the MinDA Chairman to introduce the “returnees” to Organic Broiler Chicken production which would take less space while promising a decent income for the beneficiaries.
In addition to Organic Chicken Broiler production, the “returnees” will also be introduced to organic vegetable production using the chicken wastes as soil enhancer.
The municipal government has already committed gardening equipment like small tractors and tools which were recently procured to the first Balik Probinsya beneficiaries for Lanao del Norte.
With the issuance of the Executive Order signed by President Rody Duterte yesterday which defines the function of the BPBPP Commission and its purpose, MinDA will conduct next week an orientation workshop to prepare the town for the first “returnees.”
