Davao City – Two villages in the earthquake-hit towns of Makilala and Tulunan, both in North Cotabato, will receive two Solar-Powered Water Systems for drinking and Irrigation.
The proto-types of the Solar-Powered Water Systems will be installed in Bulacanon, Makilala and in New Panay, Tulunan.
A team from Huangzhou Yatai Corporation of China and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) inspected the proposed location of the water systems on Friday accompanied by local officials of both towns.
The two Solar-Powered Water Systems are donations of the Huangzhou Yatai Corporation of China to MinDA as its support to the Mindanao Water Supply Program (MinDA Water) Program of the agency.
The two units worth of P10-M each are proto-type models of Huangzhou Yatai’s Solar-Powered Water Systems which would source water from rivers or creeks primarily for irrigation.
The Huangzhou Yatai model, however, comes with a Water Filtration Facility which is also solar-powered, to provide clean and safe water for drinking.
The Bulacanon, Makilala unit will serve the water needs of a population of 3,400 with 689 households supply 206,700 litres of water daily.
It will also provide irrigation water for a still undetermined area of rice farms getting water from the nearby Malasila River.
The New Panay, Tulunan unit will serve a population of 2,200 with 449 households requiring 132,000 litres of drinking water everyday.
The New Panay Solar-Powered Water System could also irrigate about 800-hectares of rice farms in the area sourcing its water also from Malasila River.
Representatives from Huangzhou Yatai, Engineer Ting Chen, who is the Project Manager, and his Filipino counterpart, Mertz Jayco, were joined by MinDA’s representatives Claire Billones, Project Coordinator, and technical staff Jean Calotes and Engr. Carlo Garcia.
In Tulunan, the inspection team was guided by Mayor Rueul Limbungan, New Panay Barangay Chairman Eddie Tajolosa and Lemuel Porras.
In Makilala, Chief of Planning Leonard Legarda and Brgy. Chairman Remegio De Guzman guided the engineering team.
Work on the project is expected to start December this year.
The MinDA Water Program backed by MinDA, the Department of Interior and Local Governments and the Development Bank of the Philippines will be launched in Davao City on Dec. 6.
