Passing by the town of Makilala, North Cotabato today, I was captivated by the sight of an array of tropical fruits sold in makeshift stalls along the highway.
Durian at P50 per kilo, Rambutan at P30, Lanzones at P80 per kilo, Mangosteen, Guyabano, Santol and many more.
Some of these could be the fruits of seedlings given out by the local government under the Plant Now Pay Later Program implemented many years ago.
Perhaps, the Provincial Government of North Cotabato now under Gov. Nancy Catamco would replicate what we did many years ago – bring these fruits to Metro Manila where people have been longing for fresh fruits from the provinces.
Let us do the TienDA ng mga Prutas at the DA Central Office compound in Quezon City and the Bureau of Plant Industry compound in San Andres, Manila.
