Journey continues! MinDA STARTS VALIDATION OF “FISH CENTERS” LOCATION

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has started the site visits and validation of the 22 proposed “Fish Centers” to be established under the Mindanao Fish and Aquaculture Development Program (MINFAD).
The MINFAD Fish Centers will be equipped with post-harvest facilities like ice-making and blast-freezing machinery, cold storage, feed mills, fish-drying, processing and vacuum-packing equipment.
Yesterday, the MinDA team visited the National Mariculture Park in Panabo City, the proposed site for Davao del Norte.
Governor Edwin Jubahib and Cong. Aldon Dujali joined the MinDA team in inspecting the proposed Fish Center site.
Officers of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources briefed the team on the production potentials of the Panabo City Mariculture Park whose main activity is Bangus Fish Cage Farming.
Last week, the MinDA team which I personally led, visited the coastal town of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur.
Today, the team is in Mati City, Davao Oriental for the Mindanao Fisheries and Aquaculture Summit.
Davao Oriental which faces the Pacific Ocean is one of the richest Tuna fishing grounds of Mindanao.
Most of the catch, however, is shipped to General Santos City because of the absence of post-harvest facilities, including an ice plant.
The MINFAD Fish Centers is one the major projects identified by MinDA for inclusion in the Mindanao Rise Program funded by the European Union.
