Light After 3 Dark Years!

In early 2017, I made a trip to Butig, Lanao del Sur, known as the lair of a terrorist group, to check on the problems in the ground and proceeded to Malabang, Lanao del Sur where I met with the people in a public consultations.

Malabang is known as a fishing town but when I told people that the Department of Agriculture could build an ice plant and cold storage facilities, all that I received was a blank stare.

Noong tinanong ko ang mga kasama ko sa entablado kung bakit parang hindi natuwa ang mga tao, ang sagot nila: “Paano yan Secretary, wala man kaming kuryente tatlong taon na.”

Of course, I felt stupid for not checking first the details on the ground before making an announcement.

Problema talaga kasi ang electric cooperative ng Lanao del Sur dahil sa malaking utang nito sa National Grid Corp. of the Philippines kaya pati ang mga bayan na nagbabayad ay nadamay.

I worked on the problem and brought the mayors of the towns to Sec. Alfonso cusi of the Department of Energy and the National Electrification Administration.

After addressing all the issues, the seven towns were reconnected to the power grid through a different power service cooperative.

I am happy that people still remember this little act of help on a problem which was outside of realm of responsibility.
