I have been asked several times whether Manok Pinoy hens could sit on and hatch their own eggs.
The answer is Yes and the proof is this young Manok Pinoy pullet which jumped out of the breeding yard enclosed with nets and laid eggs in the bushes.
Then, she disappeared for 21 days.
Last week, she came out of the bushes towing 9 biddies, all of them healthy in spite of the fact that they were not vaccinated or immunized.
This is a very encouraging development as it supports my view that Manok Pinoy, a new strain of Philippine free range chicken, is ideal for raising by our farmers in the countryside.
There is no need for electric incubators!
Imagine if a farming family has 10 Manok Pinoy hens and each of them would produce 6 chicks?
In three months, at P200 per kilo live that would be an additional income of P12,000 for the farming family.
How is that for an effective and sustainable program to address rural poverty?
