Vegetable farmers from Talakag and Lantapan, Bukidnon are coming to Kidapawan today to bring fresh stocks of Lettuce as buyers virtually cleaned the table during the first day of the MinDA Tienda Sa Kidapawan.
Project Coordinator Jimmy Musa of the Mindanao Development Authority reported that of the four varieties of vegetables including Carrots, Potatoes and Chinese Cabbage, Lettuce was the buyers’ favorite.
A few hours after the opening of the MinDA Tienda in front of the JCX Convention Center in Kidapawan, the tables were cleaned up of Lettuce.
This prompted Project Head Director Joey Recimilla to call for additional supplies from Bukidnon.
Farmers are expected to arrive with 1 Ton of fresh and newly harvested Lettuce today.
MinDA launched the MinDA Tienda after traditional buyers of vegetables in Bukidnon dropped the buying price of Chinese Cabbage to only P2 per kilo.
Yesterday, Chinese Cabbage was sold for P30 per kilo which after expenses and spoilage is expected to earn farmers a net of P12 per kilo.
From Kidapawan City, MinDA Tienda will move to other towns and cities in Central Mindanao observing each area’s traditional Market Day.
