This morning, fresh vegetables from Talakag, Bukidnon were displayed in front of the satellite office of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) in Kidapawan City as part of the first leg of a series of events which will link farmers with direct consumers.
The project was started following the information shared by the vegetable farmers last week that cabbage from their farms was being bought for only P2 per kilo.
Many disappointed farmers decided not to harvest their crops because the price offered could not even cover the cost of production.
The MinDA Tienda Series will assist farmers to directly sell their produce in the different towns of Centrral Mindanao, especially Cotabato Province which are mostly rice, corn, oil palm and banana growing areas.
The event in Kidapawan City is supported by the local government of Kidapawan and the same engagement will be done in other towns as well.
Next week, MinDA Tienda will bring the Bukidnon vegetables to other towns in time for their Market Days which is still being practiced in Mindanao.
On Tuesday, MinDA Tienda Vegetables will be in the New Rizal, Mlang Market Day, Wednesday in Tulunan, Matalam, Kabacan, M’lang and other towns.
The main objective of the program is to connect the farmers directly with the market so that they will be liberated from the manipulation and control of traders.
