As the interest on Mindanao’s Giant Bamboo (sn: Dendrocalamus giganteus) heightens with my constant FB postings, many have asked me to describe how large they are.
Here are four photos which I hope would give people an idea of their size.
The first photo provided by the Bukidnon Giant Bamboo Resources Corp. shows two men appearing like midgets beside a clump of the Giant Bamboo.
The second and third photos show a bar stool using Giant Bamboo as base showing how big it is compared to my leg.
The fourth photo shows Giant Bamboo seedlings in my nursery which will be shipped to Cabagan, Isabela on Thursday.
Imagine how these Giant Bamboos, planted by the banks of the mighty Cagayan River, could mitigate flooding and tame the strong winds.
These Giant Bamboos, even when broken or toppled by typhoons, could easily produce shoots again in even greater numbers.
Also, these Giant Bamboos could cool the air in Cagayan Valley where the temperature could at times shoot up beyond 40° C.
