After smelling and licking the new food offered to them, my Boer, Anglo-Nubian and LaMancha goats feasted on the first serving of Sorghum silage laced with seaweeds, molasses and grains feeds.
As expected, there was initial hesitation but after nibbling on their new food, the goats cleaned up the feeding trough.
The Sorghum silage which was served was not fully fermented yet as it was only a week old.
Animal silage expert Arnel Corpuz said the silage kept in vacuum bags should at least be 15 days old before serving.
Some of the bags, however, were punctured this the decision to feed it to the goats early.
The reaction of the goats to the Sorghum silage is an encouraging development for the Sorghum Program of the Mindanao Development Authority.
Sorghum farming is being promoted by MinDA to support the growing poultry, livestock and fisheries industry of Mindanao.
