Mindanao’s Longest Bridge! Panguil Bay Bridge Work Starts; 3.7-km Span Opens Dec. 2023

Tangub City, Misamis Occidental – The Panguil Bay Bridge which will connect the town of Tubod, Lanao del Norte to Tangub City in Misamis Occidental will be open to vehicular traffic by December 2023 cutting travel time between the two points from over 1 hour to only 10 minutes.
When completed, the 3.7-kilometer span costing about P7-B will be the longest bridge in Mindanao, longer by about 1.5-kilometers than the iconic San Juanico Bridge which spans the 2.2-kilometer San Juanico Strait between the islands of Samar and Leyte.
Misamis Occidental Governor Philip Tan, Tangub City Mayor Jennifer Tan, the Governor’s wife, Department of Public Works and Highways Engineers and South Korean engineers yesterday briefed officials of the Mindanao Development Authority on the status of the project during a visit to the site.
Gov. Tan said actual construction on the bridge has started, two years after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the groundbreaking ceremony in 2018 and five years after the signing of the loan agreement between the Philippine Government and the South Korean Government.
The Eximbank of South Korea provided a P6-B funding for the project with a Philippine Government counterpart of over P1-B.
The two-lane 3.7 kilometer extradosed-type bridge will shorten the travel time between the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental from almost two hours to only 10 minutes.
At present, vehicles could cross the Panguil Bay using ferry services from Mukas to Ozamis City which would take about 45 minutes or take the long route via Zamboanga del Sur which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Tangub City Mayor Jennifer Tan said the opening of the bridge is expected to boost economic activities not only in the city but the whole Misamis Occicental Province.
South Korean engineers representing the South Korean construction companies involved in the project said the bridge was designed using the most modern technology which included programs for environmental protection to prevent siltation in the Bay.
The Panguil Bay Bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects of the government in Mindanao seen to boost the economy of the region.
