Davao City – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) today agreed to launch a Mindanao Cycling competition which will pass through the major highways of the island and promote its new image as a peaceful region.
PSC Chairman William Ramirez and MinDA Chairman Emmanuel Piñol also jointly announced the staging of the first Mindanao-Sulu-Palawan Friendship Games set April 20 to 22.
The MINSUPALA Friendship Games will be part of the country’s preparations for the BIMP-EAGA Games and the Arafura Games in Australia next year.
The cycling competition which will be exclusive for Mindanao and Palawan cyclists will select the country’s prospective team members to the proposed BIMP-EAGA Cycling Championships next year.
MinDA Chairman, Sec. Manny Piñol, said he will propose the inclusion of the 4-nation cycling championships in the BIMP-EAGA Games next year.
In today’s meeting at the Pinnacle Hotel attended by several government agencies including the Dept. of Education and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Ramirez said the sports activities next year are part of the Sports For Peace Program of President Rody Duterte.
The PSC and MinDA Chairmen agreed to form an organizing committee to handle the BIMP-EAGA Games and the MINSUPALA Cycling Championships.
The Organizing Committee will hold office at the MinDA Headquarters at the Old Airport Building in Sasa, Davao City.
