More and more local government units in Mindanao have asked the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to help them access funds and technical support to implement the Solar-Powered Water Generation Technology for household and agricultural use.
Right after the town of Taraka, Lanao del Sur constructed six units of Solar-Powered Irrigation System and a Solar-Powered Water System with filtration facility, Balabagan town Mayor Dr. Edna Benito adopted the program and sought funding support from MinDA’s financial partner, the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte Mayor Salvador Antojado, Pitogo Zamboanga del Sur Mayor James Yecyec and Marihatag, Surigao del Sur Mayor Allan Pelenio have lined up waiting for their turn for the conduct of an Orientation on the benefits of the Solar Powered Irrigation and Water System for their communities.
It was in 2017 when, with the help of Filipino and American friends, Rocky French, Moses Khu, Winchell Campos and several others, I introduced the Solar-Powered Irrigation technology as one of the projects of the Department of Agriculture to increase agricultural production.
When I left the DA in August 2019, at least 200 units were built nationwide but the project, including the P40-B loan offer by Israel to build modern SPIS to irrigate 500,000 hectares, was discontinued later.
When I moved to the Mindanao Development Authority in 2019, the Mindanao Water Supply Program was designed and launched on Dec. 6, 2019.
It aims to provide water to Mindanao communities for drinking and agriculture through renewable systems like Solar, Windmill and Ram Pumps.
Less than two years into the MinDAWater Supply Program, the local government executives of Mindanao are finally realizing that the SPIS technology is the fastest way of providing their constituents with a very important commodity – water.
