Fish cage farming is a growing industry in Mindanao and this is mainly because of its clean waters and the favourable climatic conditions.
Unlike the northern part of the country, Mindanao is rarely hit by typhoons.
Mindanao has so many coves and bays, including islands in the Sulu Archipelago ideal for fish cage farming.
Those operating fish cages in Mindanao today say that the return on investments in coastal fish cage farming is very high.
For an investment of about P1-M for one cycle of one fish cage, the operator earns about P500,000 and since there are at least two cycles every year, one fish cage could earn a net income of P1-M every year.
The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has partnered with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP in supporting the fish cage farming in Mindanao.
Those interested to invest in fish cage farming could be assisted by MinDA in the preparation of the feasibility study and the packaging of loan documents.
MinDA offers these services for free.
