Mindanao produces over 2-million metric tons of fish every year.
This is in spite of the absence of post-harvest facilities in most of the major fishing grounds of Mindanao.
With the planned implementation of the Mindanao Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MINFAD) Program which seeks to establish ice plants and processing facilities in 22 fishing grounds, the volume of production is expected to double within the next 5 years.
The MINFAD is one of the priority programs endorsed by MinDA for inclusion in the European Union-funded Rise Mindanao Project.
