In the second episode of the “Beauty & Bounty of Mindanao” which will be posted next week, we will focus on a rising industry which is expected to boost Mindanao’s economy in the coming years – Coastal Fish Cage Farming.
The “Bounty of Mindanao Seas” will be our second feature in the social media advocacy to show to the world the other face of the Southern Islands which for long have been associated with violence and strife.
Coastal Fish Cage Farming is catching fire in Mindanao mainly because the waters are clean and the region does not have the same number of climatic disturbances like typhoons which disrupt agriculture and fishery activities like in the North.
The “Bounty of Mindanao Seas” documentary will bring you to the different coves where enterprising fishermen have shifted to growing Milkfish, Danggit and Kitong in fish cages instead of sailing to the high seas.
In addition, Bangus or milkfish grown in Coastal Fish Cages has a better taste than those raised in inland fishponds.
While the investments are quite high, the returns are handsome.
The show will also feature the lending programs of the Development Bank of the Philippines, the partner bank of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), which includes financing for Coastal Fish Cage Farming.
