Tandag City, Surigao del Sur – This agriculture, fisheries and minerals rich province facing the Pacific Ocean yesterday became the third local government unit to go digital with the launching of the One Mindanao One Data introduced by the Mindanao Development Authority.
In simple ceremonies held at the Provincial Capitol in the capital city, Governor Alexander Pimentel and I, representing MinDA signed the Memorandum of Agreement which would officially start the data gathering to build the digital database.
This was witnessed by officials of the provincial government and the MinDA group which included Eastern Mindanao Area Management Officer Emel Lawanza, Digital Program consultant Noel Degamo and Fisheries consultant Dr. Fathma Idris.
Surigao del Sur is now the third Mindanao Province to enrol in the program after Misamis Oriental and North Cotabato.
Other provinces are expected to join the program to complete the 24-Provinces Digital Interconnectivity which would allow each member to identify the market for its excess production and the sources of commodities it needs.
The digital database will also provide local government leaders access to important information needed for critical decision making, including accurate statistics for agriculture and fisheries.
This digital database will later be expanded to include other critical programs like the Mindanao Water Management and Conservation, the Green Mindanao Program, the Agricultural Guide Map and others.
