Talk of a President who truly looks after the welfare of his people and you are talking of President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Less than an hour after I fired off a text message asking President Aquino for his help in resolving the unrest which has affected the studies of thousands of students of the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan, he responded with a short but reassuring message.
“Will have this looked into,” President said in response to a text message I sent following the countless appeals for help from students and parents which I also received.
“As an alumnus of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), I would like to personally seek your help by directing the proper agencies to end the unrest caused by rallyists which prevented thousands of students, mostly from poor families, from entering the school campus.
“The parents are appealing for your intercession. Thank you.”
The above-quoted message was what I sent to the President and it did not take an hour before he responded.
Hours earlier, I received a message posted in my facebook.com fanpage by journalist John Unson of the Philippine Daily Star who asked me to refer the problem to President Aquino.
I have also received messages from parents who appealed that the matter be brought to the attention of the President because nobody in the level of the municipal government and the provincial government could seem to resolve the problem.
Poster Jemark Cangque said: “that’s the right thing to do gov… we’re deserving for a long time peace in usm… i think there is something powerful governing and leading the protest how sad that the local government of north cotabato can’t solved the problem… i am very thankful to you gov. that you lend a hand in helping us even though you’re not our gov.”
Nancy Grace Alfaras Bayona, obviously an overseas worker supporting a student at USM said: “MARAMING SALAMAT PO! GOV. MANNY for personally intervening and directing this problem to the PRESIDENT. WE keep praying na everything’s gonna be okay SOONEST so that PEACE & ORDER WILL PREVAIL AT USM ONCE MORE… THE NATION’S HOPE LIES IN OUR CHILDREN & THEIR EDUCATION..SO LET’S SUPPORT FOR THEIR CAUSE. GODBLESS u more Gov. Manny to be a blessing to the COTABATENOS. MABUHAY PO KAU!!! 5 to YOU!”
Another facebook.com follower, Ivy Hope Aliman, posted: “BIG THANKS SIR;-) we really need people like you, who makes an effort to care and do something on what’s happening in USM..”
With the commitment by President Aquino of immediate action on the USM problem, parents and students can now expect swift moves by government people.
Let us keep our fingers crossed and pray that everything will turn out right.
