In the long time that I have known the fiery former Mayor and now Vice Mayor of Davao City Rody Duterte, I can say with certainty that he is a person who will not allow an injustice to go unattended and the culprit unpunished.
Many years ago, he ordered the deportation of a Korean national who was seen by Rody hitting his own child with a golf club while the boy was being taught golf lessons in the Apo Golf Club.
Of course, before he was deported Rody, who happens to be the Godfather of my son, Imman and will soon again be the wedding Godfather of my daughter, Dr. Maria Krista, made the Korean feel the pain of being hit with a golf club.
Yesterday, The Avenger in Rody Duterte was proven once again when he asked the Davao City Police to immediately apply for a Hold Departure Order against New Zealand national David William Wakefield who is being accused of molesting two young girls from Kidapawan City.
Wakefield, who was earlier arrested by the Davao City police following the filing of the complaint, was apparently released from police custody after there was a delay in the submission of documents to support the charges.
Several concerned citizens who were scandalized and alarmed by the lack of concern of our officials in North Cotabato over the plight of the two girls, sent me text messages even when I was in Johannesburg, South Africa and asked me to do something about it.
They were afraid that Wakefield would leave the country.
Immediately, I sent a text message to Rody Duterte who acted with haste and directed the Davao City Police to file the Hold Departure Order.
Once more, Rody Duterte proved to be the champion of the oppressed. Me? I just showed that I care for my people even when I am across the seas.
