Kidapawan City – The Mindanao Development Authority’s Rural Water Supply Program is making waves generating curiousity from local government leaders outside of Mindanao.
Cebu City No. 2 Councilor Niña Mabatid today visited me in Kidapawan City to learn more about the Mindanao Water Supply Program and how it could be replicated in the upland barangays of Cebu City.
She said lack of water has been a major problem in at least 20 upland barangays of Cebu City affecting the lives and livelihood of the residents.
Councilor Mabatid said she heard of MinDA’s program to provide water to upland villages in Mindanao, both for drinking and agriculture.
The MinDAWater Supply Program, launched Dec. 6 in Davao City, introduces alternative water generation technologies like Solar-Powered Irrigation and Water Supply and Hydraulic Ram Pump.
Water conservation programs like small water catchments and impounding dams are also components of the MinDAWater.
The program is supported by the Dept of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Councilor Mabatid said she will seek technical advice from MinDA on the crafting of the Upland Cebu Water Supply Program.(UpCebuWater).
