Seeds of Peace! MinDA SORGHUM PROGRAM STARTS IN IP AREAS, BARMM

Houston, Texas – The vast ancestral domains of Mindanao, including the Bangsamoro Provinces, will be the first areas where the protein-rich Sorghum crop will be planted starting February 2020.
The introduction of Sorghum in Mindanao a grains crop with very high protein content, is expected to boost the livestock and poultry sector, including Halal meat and poultry production.
The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) yesterday officially received from Scott Seeds, a Texas seed production company, a donation of 25-metric tons of Sorghum seeds in ceremonies held at the Philippine Consulate in Houston.
I received the donation on behalf of MinDA while Coby Krieghauser signed the deed of donation as Chief Executive Officer and owner of Scott Seeds Company.
Gov. Edwin Jubahib, one of the provinces which will receive the donated Sorghum Seeds, signed a Deed of Acceptance during the same ceremony.
Other areas which will get shares of the Sorghum Seeds include Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, Tawitawi and Maguindanao where stakeholders have asked for support in developing their Halal livestock and poultry industry.
Consul General Jeril Santos and members of the Philippine Consulate in Houston witnessed the ceremonies.
Members of the Filipino-American Community in Texas attended the signing ceremonies.
The vessel carrying the Sorghum seeds set sail from Galveston, Texas yesterday and is expected to arrive in the Port of Davao in February next year.
