Lanao del Sur Province, rich in natural resources and a vast land area, will establish this year a 100-head Cattle Fattening Farm to mark the beginning of a province-wide Livestock Development Program.
After an orientation and exposure trip to the Adelaide River Farm in Polomolok, South Cotabato, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong, Jr. said he will set up the Cattle Fattening Pilot Farm in Wao town to serve as a model foe other nunicipalities to replicate.
“We can very well do this project in Lanao del Sur,” Gov. Adiong said after touring the 500-head facility with officials of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
He said residents of his province have a huge demand for beef, especial during the breaking of fast of the Ramadan, Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha.
“We have to buy cattle from outside the province but now we will start producing what we need,” Gov. Adiong said.
MinDA Livestock consultant Arnel Corpuz told Gov. Adiong and his brother, Cong. Hookey Adiong, that cattle fattening could be profitable agricultural activity for Maranao farmers.
MinDA will extend technical support to Lanao del Sur in the implementation of the project.
