In the midst of a meeting yesterday to organize the effort to ensure food supply in Mindanao, I received a call from a friend and fellow official relaying the complaint of another official that the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is encroaching into his “territory” and assigned task.
To say that I was appalled and scandalized is an understatement.
Perhaps, some people do not know it but MinDA is the coordinating agency for all Mindanao concerns, from agriculture to health, tourism to economic development, infrastructure to security issues, environment to poverty alleviation.
As we face the COVID-19 Crisis, MinDA is coordinating inter-agency efforts to address health and food security concerns.
I simply cannot believe that in the difficult times that we are in, some people are still engrossed with the thought of who gets credit.
This is the worst time to bicker. Or to even be obsessed with who would look good to President Rody Duterte and the people.
I have always considered myself as a worker who works without being told and does tasks to help and support President Duterte.
I do not need to be patted on the back or praised by the President.
In times of crisis, everybody should be a leader and a follower as well.
It matters not who does what.
What is important is that we all achieve a common goal, to save our people from this pandemic and imminent danger of food shortage.
We are all just bit players, or warriors even, in this battle of life and death.
When this is all over, the next generation will not even remember the names of who did what and how.
What they will remember is that in the age of their grandfathers and fathers, in the Year of the Lord 2020, the Filipino people joined hands as one and sacrificed to ensure that the next generation will survive.
Let us set aside our insecurities and work as one!
