For 5 to 10 Hectares
Of the two Solar-Powered Irrigation System Prototypes which the Israelis donated and built in Lumban, Laguna, it is the small set-up capable of serving 5 to 10 hectares which interests me the most.
This system will effectively replace the diesel-engine-powered Shallow Tube Wells which exact a huge financial expense on small rice farmers.
Farmers spend as much as P15,000 per hectare for diesel fuel to run the Shallow Tube Well.
When I started initial talks with Israel’s LR Group, I asked them if they could design a Solar Irrigation System which could replace the Diesel Engine-Powered Shallow Tube Well.
They completed the design and were setting it up in Lumban when I resigned June 2019.
Today, Lumban, Laguna Mayor Rolando Obatay said the Small SPIS project was performimg well and farmers are very happy.
I was also happy to hear the report.
My next step is to introduce the technology to farmers of Mindanao.
