One week after their first meeting in my farm, officers of a Davao City-based company and an organic rice farmers cooperative signed an agreement ensuring farmers of a ready market and a fair price for their produce.
Don Bosco Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DBMPC) will buy its members’ production of Black, Red and Brown Organic Rice at P25 per kilo which in turn will be milled and delivered to Eng Seng Food Products of Davao City.
DBMPC Chairman Mario Alolosan and Eng Seng Food Products President John Tan sealed the marketing agreement in simple signing ceremonies in my farm house today.
Last week both groups met in my farm to explore a marketing arrangement for Organic Rice.
After a site inspection and a second meeting, DBMPC and Eng Seng agreed to forge a marketing partnership.
The marketing agreement is expected to encourage Organic Rice farmers who belong to the Mindanao Organic Rice Council (MORCO) to expand their areas because of the ready market and fair price.
The Mindanao Development Authority with the support of the USAID organized the MORCO late last year.
